I would like to have one. Izabael, please be a blessing. Thank you.

What djinn suits me?

Yep i know it’s a weird question, but in my journey i have never felt drawn to one. Maybe the cuse is that my soul is old, when i ask … All i get is ‘not now watcher’ what ever that means.

Hey everybody! I haven’t been able to get on the forums for about a week now as my internet was down, but in the meantime I’ve been researching and studying like crazy! I have bought 2 books that are EXTREMELY informative and I think everyone should check them out if they haven’t!

the first:

"The Origional Account of the Teachings, Rites and Ceremonies of the Hermetic Order of, The Golden Dawn" by Israel Regardie. (I picked up the 6th edition) -This book is incredible! It takes you through just about everything from beginner to adept, I have found it to so far be the single best literature purchase I have made.

the second:

"The Magician’s Companion: A Practical and Encyclopedic Guide to Magical and Religious Symbolism" by Bill Whitcomb. -This is also proving to be an invaluable reference and outlines every form of magick, has tables of runes, alphabets, word pronunciation
ect. Awesome read!

I’m still just a noobie to the occult, but I still just have to reccomend these.

-Mike

Granted this is only one of Crowley’s views on the HGA, but I like this a lot. Don’t you?

MAGICK WITHOUT TEARS
By Aleister Crowley

Chapter XLIII: The Holy Guardian Angel is not the "Higher Self" but an Objective Individual

Cara Soror,

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

On going over some recent letters I see that you question abut William Gillette and the Angels was indeed "a red-hot twy-prong that you stick to hiss i’ the soft of" me. You meant not only to inquire into the order of being to which angels belong, but as to whether they are liable to accident, misfortune and the like.

The answer is that it depends on the Angel—for the purposes of this letter I propose to use the word "angel" to include all sorts of disembodied beings, from demons to gods—in all cases, they are objective; a subjective "angel" is different from a dream only in non-essentials.

Now, some angels are actually emanations of the elements, planets, or signs to which they are attributed. They are partial beings in very much the same way as are animals. They are not microcosms as are men and women. They are almost entirely composed of the planet (or what- ever it is) to which they are attributed. The other components of their being I take to be almost accidental. For example, the Archangel Ratziel is lord of a company of angels called Auphanim; and one must not imagine that all these angels are identical with one another, or there would not seem to be much sense in it. They have some sort of composition, some sort of individuality; and the character and appearance of the Angel can be determined by its name.

I do not think that I have anywhere mentioned how this is done. To take an example, let us have Qedemel—the Hebrew letters as Q.D.M.A.L, and the numeration is 175, which is that of the sum of the 1st 49 numbers, as is proper to Venus.1 We may then expect the head or head-dress of the spirit to be in some way characteristic of the Sign of Pisces. The general form of the body will be indicated by the Daleth, the letter of Venus, and the lower part (or perhaps the quality) will be determined by the watery Mem—The termination Aleph Lamed is usually taken to indicate appropriate symbols. For instance, the Aleph might show a golden aura, and the Lamed a pair of balances. Some further detail might be indicated by taking the letters Daleth and Mem together, for Dam is the Hebrew word for blood. From such considerations one can build up a pictorial representation in one’s mind which may serve as a standard to which any appearance of him should more or less conform.2 The question then takes the form of inquiry into how far such beings are immortal or eternal.

In the above case, evidently his existence depends on that of the planet Venus; and one might suppose that, if that planet were stricken from the solar system, there would be no more Qedemel. But this is to judge too rashly; for Venus himself is only an emanation of the number 7, and is therefore indestructible. {Handwritten note: Because she-he comes from … who is [triangle] + [square], 3 + 4}

It is some such idea as the above which is at the back of the conventional idea that elementals are immortal, that they incur mortality when their ambition and devotion causes them to incarnate as human beings. (Is this achieved by some sort of marriage with a reincarnating Ego? Or how? All this is very obscure; we need more evidence.)

You will doubtless have read in many Eastern stories of the destruction of dryads or Nats by the cutting down of the tree in which they have made their habitation. A nymph, similarly, would be destroyed if her fountain were to dry up.

Now, can an angel of this sort ever go wrong, by which one must mean, can he ever be untrue to his own nature? I do not see how one can imagine this to happen; for they are so completely creatures of the elements of which they are composed that they must be regarded as completely devoid of will in any intelligible sense of the word. Their actions in fact are merely re-actions.

They are, of course, entirely lacking in the Supernal Triad. There is therefore no question of anything in them which would persist through change. Perhaps it would be better to say that changed does not really affect them. Another way to put it would be that they are adjectives, not nouns. They are merely sensible manifestations of the elements to which they are attributed, and to the letters of their name.

Now, on the other hand, there is an entirely different type of angel; and here we must be especially careful to remember that we include gods and devils, for there are such beings who are not by any means dependent one one particular element for their existence. They are microcosms in exactly the same sense as men and women are. They are individuals who have picked up the elements of their composition as possibility and convenience dictates, exactly as we do ourselves. I want you to understand that a goddess like Astarte, Astaroth, Cotytto, Aphrodite, Hathoor, Venus, are not merely aspects of the planet;* they are separate individuals who have been identified with each other, and attributed to Venus merely because the salient feature in their character approximates to this ideal.

Now then, it is simple to answer the question of their development, their growing old and dying; for, being of the same order of Nature as we are ourselves, almost anything which is true of us is true also of them.

* "Venus" is, of course, a "thing-in-itself;" the planet merely one case of the idea.

I have tended rather to elaborate this theme, because of the one personally important question which arises in more recent letters; for I believe that the Holy Guardian Angel is a Being of this order. He is something more than a man, possibly a being who has already passed through the stage of humanity, and his peculiarly intimate relationship with his client is that of friendship, of community, of brotherhood, or Fatherhood. He is not, let me say with emphasis, a mere abstraction from yourself; and that is why I have insisted rather heavily that the term "Higher Self" implies "a damnable heresy and a dangerous delusion."

It it were not so, there would be no point in The Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage.

Apart from any theoretical speculation, my Sammasiti and analytical work has never led to so much as a hint of the existence of the Guardian Angel. He is not to be found by any exploration of oneself. It is true that the process of analysis leads finally to the realization of oneself as no more than a point of view indistinguishable in itself from any other point of view; but the Holy Guardian Angel is in precisely the same position. However close may be the identities in millions of ways, no complete identification is ever obtainable.

But do remember this, above all else; they are objective, not subjective, or I should not waste good Magick on them.

Let me say in particular in regard to Gods, that the God Jupiter whom you invoke is not necessarily the same as he whom I invoke. It is clear in any case that the revelation of himself to you is modified in many ways by your own particular sensitiveness; just as in ordinary life, your idea of a friend may be very different from my own conception of the same individual. Suppose, for example, he happens to be a musician, there will be an entire side of his character to which I am practically insensitive. You could talk to him for hours, and I would understand little or nothing of what was said. Similarly, if he were a mountaineer, it would be your turn to be odd man out.

Love is the law, love under will.

Yours fraternally,

666

1: Sic. The sum of the first forty-nine natural numbers is 1225 which is thus the fourth "magic number" of Venus; 175 is the third, being 1225 ÷ 7, hence the sum of the numbers on each row of the "magic square" of Venus – T.S.

2: This is basically Golden Dawn teaching, with slight elaborations by Crowley – T.S.

The Magickal Motto

Next question :)

I know that magicians use a magickal motto as their form of address, interchangeably with their "real" name depending on circumstance. I’m wondering if there are any sources discussing the assumption of a magickal motto, what language it "should" be in, why and when one changes mottoes (as I know Uncle Al did) and so forth.

I seem to have had mine communicated to me while practicing the assumption of HPK’s God-form; it is consistent and the experience culminates every time I do it with this phrase.

I’m wondering about the significance of different mottoes according to initiatory grade and who confers the privilege of changing or assuming the motto.

Stopping now :) Thanks in advance.

Crystal Gazing

I have recently read a book on evoking various spirits. Unfortunately I have been having some trouble with the art of crystal gazing. Any help that anyone may have would be greatly appreciated. Also any helpful tips on closed eyed astral senses (astral projection) would be appreciated also. Are there any herbs, etc. that may help? Thank you.

Let me start by introducing myself, my name is Michael and I have recently discovered this great online community! I just have a few novice level questions, if anyone could give me some insight it would be most appreciated =) I have "attempted" the practice of magick in the past and I have always been fascinated with the subject, unfortunately I have never gotten any results, I usually end up sitting alone in my room and feeling silly. This has started me down a path of doubt which I would like to reverse. So my questions for you should you want to answer are: Where do I begin? What is considered "entry-level" magick? I want to start with something simple that will show me some real results and benefits to help me restore my lost faith. There seems to be many people here with alot of sound knowledge and experience so I humbly ask for your assistance. I’m sure others have been right where I am today, so please, I am ready to learn if you are willing teach.

Thank-you my friends,
Michael

Yep, I still haven’t grown out of the tadpole pond. I have a question. Again. Maybe this will spark a good discussion that might even be helpful to others down the track. I tend toward the long-winded for which I most unabashedly do not apologise – I do have a point. Bear with me.

I practice yoga, in the sense of the modern fad for yoga-as-fitness. I also practice yoga in the sense that Crowley advocates, though not well. I work hard at it though. I have always seen the use of the body as a magickal act, and thus my physical life is a constant sacrament, always being perfected and tweaked towards what I feel is the ultimate in Niyama (loosely, clean-living). Hence my understanding of movement as meditation is deeper than most; karate, tai chi and yoga have all played an instrumental part in my spiritual formation.

In the use of my body as a magickal tool/weapon, I have come to realise recently that in the practice of Western esotericism/magick, there are a number of different aspects of physicality, aside from sex magick which I am not going to touch on (please do me the courtesy of leaving it out as far as possible – it will only confuse me here). These aspects are:

  1. yoga in the Crowleyan sense (one asana practiced for the purpose of focusing the mind)
  2. the drawing of sigils and marks such as for Goetic daemons and the Pentagrams, Hexagrams, Mark of the Beast etc.
  3. the assumption of God-forms
  4. the signs of the grades, of L.V.X., N.O.X., Mater Triumphans etc.

I *get* 1. and 2. I’m working on 1. and making good progress from a standing start; the use of 2. has always been a part of my (romanticised) imaginings of ceremonial magick. These I’m cool with.

3. is difficult for me. I’ve practiced a little with Hoor-Pa-Kraat after reading Rodney Orpheus’ Abrahadabra and I found it a very tiring and challenging but ultimately somewhat successful practice. I need to keep working on it, but I don’t know enough about the other Gods to work with them as well, and I know that using only one will skew my growth. Also . . . what’s it for??? What’s the point of it??? Halp!

4., though, is the biggest thing for me. Reading the descriptions of rituals (let’s use Liber Resh vel Helios as the example) gives me the impression that one makes the gestures then speaks. I watched a video on youtube recently that I think ceewayne recommended, of the Star Ruby being performed, and the guy doing it made a flurry of movements with his arms that made him look like nothing so much as Michael Jackson and I fully expected that dodgy eighties pirouette to come out. Then he began speaking. I personally got the sense during performing the rituals (Resh again) that the signs are meant to accompany the words. So when I do my dawn Resh, I make Isis Mourning (L.) along with "Hail unto thee . . . strength"; Typhon (V.) with "Who sailest(/travellest) across . . . helm."; and Osiris Risen (X.) with "Hail unto thee . . . night." Now, I know that someone will say do what’s right for me, and I am, but I have a broader question.

What the hell do they all mean? In the example of Resh, I can see the three signs as enacting the story of Osiris’ death etc, which is okay. I won’t even get into the question of how "Old Aeon" that feels to me. But what about the rest of it? I guess I want to know what intent to inject into the making of these signs, as I find them difficult to do with anything approaching meaning. If I’m not feeling ridiculous, that’s only because I’m getting inured to the ridiculousness of them.

Wisdom, please?

P.S. I will probably post this on another forum. Just so you all know. Let me know if that’s a problem.

New Avatar Power (NAP)

This thread is regarding the: Miracle of the New Avatar Power by Geoff Cobb-Gray (Parket Publishing; 1975).

This book, way back from 1975, though written like a Qabalistic version of How to Win Friends and Influence People has a reputation in the occult community as being highly effective. This isn’t much of a surprise when you realize Cobb-Gray’s “New Avatar Power” is streamlined Hermeticism of the sort found in Golden Dawn and its many derivatives. So while this book isn’t the “end-all-be-all” of magickal grimoires, it is effective, and I’d like to present how to use it here in this forum.

What I like best is the simplicity of the rituals. If one desires to make them more complex, you can add whatever magickal trappings you like (colors, banishing rituals, tools, incense, symbols, Entheogens), but NAP works all by itself and is probably the easiest introduction I could ever give into Qabalistic (“High Magick”). So let’s jump right in.

Step 1:

Write down the date/time and the ritual you are going to perform in your journal. (If you don’t have a journal, start one just for magick. This step is important. Don’t skip on keeping track of ALL your rituals!)

Step 2:

THE NEW AVATAR POWER RITUAL

Quietly read the following words aloud, listening to what you are saying. Read slowly and carefully, pausing between sentences, and stopping for about three seconds wherever you find three periods (…) in the text. It should take you a full four minutes to read the words aloud from beginning to end. You may record this on your computer and play it back for yourself instead of reading it each time. The point is to completely relax and feel good for a few minutes.

"I am beginning the New Avatar Power Ritual. I call on the Inner Planes to witness. I state my purpose thus: ANKAR YOD HAY VAW HAY.

I begin to wind down, to let go and be rid of all the tensions of my body. To let my muscles relax, unwind and let go.

The tensions are beginning to drain from my body. Soon, a gradual heaviness will start to weigh down my thighs, my arms, my hands, my feet, my legs, my body.

My muscles unwind and let go. All my muscles are relaxing, unwinding, and relaxing.

Very soon I shall feel the winding, the letting go. Unwinding and letting go. Unwinding, letting go. Unwinding. Letting Go.

Deeper and deeper…letting go…unwinding and letting go.

The tensions drain from my muscles and they will soon become loose, letting go, relaxing and unwinding.

Breathing easily and deeply. Easily and deeply.

Unwinding and letting go…drifting into the peace and serenity of complete relaxation. And as my body unwinds and relaxes so I enter the peace and quiet, where only these words have meaning, and nothing else disturbs me.

Letting go..unwinding…letting go…unwinding…relax…relax…relax…let go…let go…let go…relax…relax…relax…let go…let go…let go.

I call on Thee, Mighty Arzel, who stands in the East, to assist me this and all my ventures. I know now that New Avatar Power is flooding to the surface. I now close my eyes gently."

Allow 5 minutes for the New Avatar Power to flood to the surface on its own as you relax.

Step 3:

After reading the New Avatar Power Ritual then read ONE of the following depending on your goal:

Invocation for Money

"In the Power of the Names EH-HEH-YEH, YEH-HO-VO-EL-OH-HEEM, & YEH-HO-

VO-AH-VAY-DAH-AHS I place this Invocation with Thee, NEE-TEE-KAH,

Genius of Wealth. Know that I require and command Thee to bring me

gold. Thou has dominion over wealth and Thou shalt begin this very

instant to shape the future such that money shall come to me, enough

and to spare, by the powers of these Words

and Invocation. Be Thou ruled by me the Names SHAH-DYE-ELL-KYE &

AH-DOE-NYE-HA-AH-RETZ. So mote it be."

Invocation to Bring Success

"In all my undertakings henceforward I conjure and command Thee,

mighty ELL-YOU-BAIT-ELL, to protect me, bear me up and carry me

forward to the pinnacle of success. Thou shalt give me clarity of

mind to confound my opposers; Thou shalt bend the Laws of the Cosmos

to my and Thy will, bringing each and every one of my desires to

pass. I shall be enwrapped in Thy faultless Powers, and tread ever

higher to that glittering peak which I covet. Hear this, and obey me:

AH-NAH-FAX-EE-TONE which Aaron heard and spoke. Thou shalt guide me

to success. So mote it be."

Invocation to Win A Legal Action

"Mighty EYE-EEL-AH-HE-YAH who holds sway over the decisions of men,

Thou shald bring Thy power to bear on my behalf in the legal action

which is pending. I command that I shall be successful in this, my

hour of need. Thou hast the ability to aid me in achieving this

desire. Hear the Word and be obedient to It and me: NAB-RAT-AGLA-SURE-

AN-AT. So mote it be."

Invocation For Protection from Evil

"I invoke Thee, GAH-DEE-ELL, in Thy power and wisdom to place around

me a shield against which evil shall be powerless. Those who would

harm me shall be powerless, and their evil shall return to them a

thousandfold. Be Thou ready and able to place this protection, as I

seal it with Thee with the Words: EE-YOTE-EEYAH-VAW-ARE-ZALL. I am

within Thy protection now and my enemies cannot harm me. So mote it

be."

Invocation To Excite Love

"Hear me, AH-NAY-ELL & JAHZ-AIR, Thou spirits of Venus and love. I

desire to excite love and passion in the heart of a suitable

partner. Stretch forth Thine hands and pluck the heart strings such

that my desire is returned a hundredfold. I conjure this command

thus: HOR-TA-ELL-RACK-AH-MAY. So mote it be."

Step 4:

Write down any final thoughts/feelings in your journal. You are done for the day.

Step 5:

Repeat these steps ONCE a day, EVERYDAY, at the same time each day. Do this until your result manifests or you realize you don’t want the result anymore. You will definitely get some sort of result. Most people jiggle lose results close to what they want within hours or days. Sometimes you get something similar but isn’t quite what you wanted. You can decide if the manifestation was close enough, or if you need to keep repeating the ritual. If this is a difficult goal, you may have to repeat the ritual dozens of times of the course of weeks.

If you have any questions post in this thread. I will answer questions regarding this blog and how to get started into New Avatar Power and magick in general.

Also note that these instructions are deceptively simple. Don’t knock it unless you’ve tried it! If you’ve tried it with sincerity then post here and tell me how “this crap didn’t work” but NOT until you’ve tried!
